A parceria entre o artista de design Mike Mignola e o realizador Guillermo del Toro é uma das minhas favoritas. As suas sensibilidades artísticas parecem confluir na perfeição, quase como se tivessem nascido para tal. A mais recente colaboração foi para a capa da edição em DVD e Blu-Ray de CRONOS para a Criterion Collection, mas fiquem também com outras igualmente icónicas. Fish Tank

Este foi o filme que passou pelo Fantas deste ano que mais fez pessoas falar. Um filme de baixo orçamento, com actores desconhecidos (só mesmo Michael Fassbender é que seria o mais reconhecível), uma história sobre a vida nos subúrbios, enfim, não era propriamente o blockbuster do festival, nem de qualquer megaplex que se preze. Mas o que é certo é que eu ainda hoje me lembro da força das suas imagens e, principalmente, da pequena grande actriz principal, uma principiante que "é" o filme.

FISH TANK leva agora o melhor reconhecimento que pode ser dado a um filme no mercado home video - a Criterion Collection na América acaba de anunciar o seu lançamento em DVD e Blu-Ray para Fevereiro próximo. Fiquem com os extras.

Rocky Horror Picture Show em Blu-Ray!

Pois agora é que a porca torce o rabo: chegou a verdadeira prova de fogo. ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW em Blu-Ray. Bem, lá vou ter que arranjar um mealheiro, quer queira, quer não queira. Fiquem com os pormenores todos.

Fox Home Entertainment have announced the US Blu-ray Disc release of The Rocky Horror Picture Show on 19th October 2010 priced at $34.99 SRP. A film adaptation from Richard O’Brien’s British musical horror comedy/rock opera, produced by Lou Adler and Michael White, The Rocky Horror Picture Show features revered performance by Tim Curry as a bizarre and self-proclaimed “sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania,” and Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick, as Brad and Janet, a couple who find themselves lost on a cold, rainy night. The madcap, musical mayhem begins when the couple takes refuge in the castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter as he is about to unveil his greatest creation – and have a bit of fun with his reluctant guests.

For a limited time, The Rocky Horror Picture Show: 35th Anniversary will be packaged in a collectible 24-page book featuring legendary photography from Mick Rock, best known for his iconic shots of rock and roll artists. Rock served as the chief photographer on the film.

Metropolis 2010

Esta notícia já não é lá muito recente, mas não perdeu um grama da sua relevância. Só mesmo os mais distraídos é que ainda não sabem que o filme "incompleto" mais famoso da História do Cinema já não o é mais, graças a uma descoberta quase miraculosa no Museo del Cine Pablo Ducrós Hicken em Buenos Aires na Argentina de uma cópia com cerca de 25 minutos de imagens que se pensavam perdidas para sempre.

Este Outono, a rentrée vai ser pontuada com exibições em salas de cinema da versão praticamente completa de METROPOLIS, assim como com lançamentos em DVD e Blu-Ray dessa mesma versão. A editora Masters of Cinema em Inglaterra já se adiantou na conversa, por assim dizer, e já nos deu datas, pormenores e imagens do que vão ser as suas edições. Os extras para já avançados aqui seguem:

•150-minute feature film (including 25 minutes of footage previously thought lost to the world)
•Special-edition packaging with lavish wraparound sleeve and embossed printing

Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence na Criterion Collection

O bom da editora americana Criterion Collection é que todos os meses lança para o mercado video uma selecção de filmes capaz de agradar a uma grande palette de cinéfilos. A outra coisa boa é que quem trabalha para essa editora tem o privilégio de resgatar filmes que até à data não foram lá muito bem tratados, nem respeitados. Como é o caso deste clássico de Nagisa Oshima: MERRY CHRISTMAS, MR. LAWRENCE. Com David Bowie, Ryuichi Sakamoto (que também assina a lendária Banda-Sonora) e Takeshi Kitano, não há como errar neste conto de um grupo de POW's num campo de concentração japonês.

O "mau" da Criterion Collection é que as suas edições ainda continuam a ser muito caras... Mas isso já é outra história. Fiquem com os extras e o trailer.

Próximos lançamentos em Blu-Ray Parte 2: Tron

E os céus continuam a atormentar-me com a sua generosidade: soube mesmo agora que lá para Novembro irá ser colocado à venda no mercado norte-americano uma edição em Blu-Ray do clássico dos 80's, TRON.

Bem, parece que já arranjei destino para o meu subsídio de férias. E de Natal. E só para verem como ando atormentado, imaginem que me limitei a incorporar o trailer dessa maravilha do sci-fi sem sequer lhe dar uma olhadela... Não me fosse dar a tentação e fazer uma loucura...

Próximos lançamentos em Blu-Ray: Flash Gordon

Ok, é chegado o momento em que eu sou obrigado a dar o braço a torcer. Eu explico: quando apareceu o DVD, eu fui um dos primeiros a adoptar essa nova tecnologia e gabava-me de já possuir uma extensa colecção de filmes quando o "povão" começou a comprar leitores de DVD a 1/4 do preço que eu tinha pago pelo primeiro que comprei. É o que dá ser vanguardista.

Com a cada vez mais crescente difusão e aceitação do novo formato digital - o Blu-Ray - e depois da guerra entre este e o HD-DVD, o boom deu-se e agora não passa uma semana sem que sejam anunciados novos filmes nessas azuis caixinhas. Devo dizer que ainda não tenho uma TV HD nem nada que se pareça, por isso, secretamente, torcia que esta coisa não pegasse (convenhamos, não há bolsa que aguente!). Mas eis que se anuncia que FLASH GORDON irá sair em Blu-Ray lá para o Verão nos States. E tudo muda de figura.

Meus amigos, estou num impasse. Como é que eu não vou querer ver no conforto do meu lar esta maravilha do kitsch sci-fi, pergunto-vos?! E em alta-definição?! Ó céus, porque sois tão generosos?!
